Forensic and Crime Scene Investigation Workshop

Programme of Activities

Every Contact Leaves a Trace

Workshop Activities will consist of a number of workstations to allow all participants to rotate around each activity. 

Schedule for Two Hour Forensic Session

Introduction to Forensic Science and the importance and use of Fingerprints in identification.

  • Ten print forms using ink pads/strips to take their own fingerprints

  • All students get to learn to take their own fingerprints and classify them with the aid of fingerprint pattern chart

  • Fining and dusting for latent finger marks on appropriate surfaces –using magnetic and or aluminium powder

  • Learning techniques to lift fingerprints using lift tapes. 

  • Wearing appropriate PPE- Mask and gloves

  • All participants take home their own classified fingerprints as well as a unique fingerprint impression Key ring.

Schedule for Half Day Forensic Session

Introduction to Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation Techniques. Students will learn about the various methods and techniques used to retrieve forensic evidence from a staged crime scene.  Through interactive practical hands-on activities at various work stations, they will gather evidence, investigate a Mock Crime Scene and using the evidence collected to identify the suspect and eliminate the victim

  • Ten print forms using ink pads/strips to take their own fingerprints

  • All students get to learn to take their own fingerprints and classify them with the aid of fingerprint pattern chart

  • Fining and dusting for latent fingermarks on appropriate surfaces –using magnetic and or aluminium powder

  • Learning techniques to lift fingerprints using lifting tape  

  • Footwear Mark Analysis and identification, using footwear lifts or moulds  

  • Techniques for retrieval of DNA evidence and safe storage

  • Learn the order in which to examine and collect potential forensic evidence and their evidential value

  • Examine a Mock Crime Scene, gathering evidence to help identify suspect / Who Dun It.

  • Complete an Examination Report

  • Wearing appropriate PPE- Crime scene suit, over whose, mask and gloves

  • All participants take home their own classified fingerprints as well as a unique fingerprint impression Key ring.  They also get to keep their scene suits

Schedule for Full Day Forensic Session

Morning Session-Mock Crime Scene Examination

Introduction to Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation Techniques.

Morning Session will incorporate techniques for Fingerprinting, Analysis and pattern identification followed by an examination of a Mock Crime Scene where they will gather forensic evidence to help identify the suspect and eliminate the victim.

  • Complete an examination report

  • Wearing appropriate PPE- Crime scene suit, over whose, mask and gloves

Afternoon Session-Mock Courtroom Scene

Afternoon Session will see students in a staged Mock courtroom presenting their evidence from the morning session.

  • Linking the importance and role Forensic Science plays in the law and judicial system

  • Opportunity for participants to role play (judge, judge, jury, CSI, barrister and defence)

  • Learn the importance, value and strength in team working

  • Communicating and presenting their evidence and backing up their decision based on the evidence they examined and retrieved from the crime scene.   

  • All participants take home their own classified fingerprints as well as a unique fingerprint impression keyring.  They also get to keep their scene suit

  • Our in-school workshops provide great opportunity for young people to engage and immerse themselves with practical hands-on interactive activities for a period of time whilst learning about the Science of Forensics and Crime Scene Investigation.  

​

  • Our workshops and activities are taught at an age-appropriate level. We aim to be informative, fun, educational and inspiring. The workshops can be catered for a whole class if that is the requirement. Children get to collaborate together, work as a team, using their critical thinking and problem-solving skills whilst learning about how Forensics helps and assists in crime scene investigations.

  • We offer Three Forensic and Crime Scene Investigation sessions.

​

  • The Two-Hour Forensic Session is suitable for KS1 and KS2 Students but can also be adapted for Reception children.

​

  • The Half Day and Full Day Forensic Experience is suitable for KS2/ upper KS2 students depending on your school requirements (participants age 8 years upwards)

​

  • Our workshops are suitable for whole class, year group activities. They are great for Science Week Activities and Science focused days.
